Ed believes the best government occurs as more and more people have a chance to interact with their elected officials. He also feels that public hearings are one of the worst forums for this interaction to occur because so few people attend and participants tend to perform rather than listen. For that reason, he is providing a new way to facilitate better communications.
The August 28, 2009 edition of USA Today reported that social media such as Facebook and Twitter are exploding into the communications marketplace with 35% of adults over 18 participating in 2008, quadrupling the percentage in 2005. Facebook now has 250 million users, 50% of whom joined in the past three months. Time spent on Facebook has increased by 700% since April with the fastest growing demographic group being those over 35. One of the great features of Facebook is the ability for those visiting a site to pose questions and make comments.
For these reasons, Ed Meyer has opened a Facebook site specifically to encourage the exchange of ideas leading up to this November's election. It doesn't cost to participate so.everyone in Kanab is encouraged to join and interact with Ed at Old Dog, Net Tricks- Ed Meyer For Kanab City Council..
